work begins this summer ...
Construction on the entryway into Gateway Park in the lower Poudre Canyon will begin later this summer and continue into the fall.
The entryway was redesigned so a major cut will not have to be made into a steep mountain side across Colorado Highway 14 from the entrance.
The city of Fort Collins Parks Planning Department has developed a conceptual plan for the 377-acre park. About 130 acres will be designed for nature appreciation and will include trails and interpretive information.
About 235 acres will be used for plant, animal and watershed protection and will contain wildlife habitat.
A 12-acre area will be designated specifically for use by people and will have parking areas, picnic shelters, restrooms, and access to the river and water treatment buildings.
Information about the park plan can be found on the city's web site. The main city web address is http://www.ci.fort-collins.co.us. Details about Gateway Park can be found with this link."
