Friends Of The Poudre
Proposed Mission / Vision Statements, and Goals

Mission:

To protect the Cache la Poudre River.

Vision:

Friends Of The Poudre is a citizens group dedicated to the preservation of a free-flowing Cache la Poudre River through education and collaborative relationships, to serve the needs of the human and natural communities within its watershed.

Goals:

In the next five years (by March, 2003) Friends Of The Poudre will:

• Adhere to a focused plan of action to preserve, restore and enhance critical areas of the Cache la Poudre watershed. For example,

  • The opening of Gateway Park.

  • Wild & Scenic designation for the Rockwell site on the Little South Fork of the river near Pingree Park.
  • Stewardship Trust designation for State Land Board Property near the mouth of the canyon.

• Develop a process to involve a critical mass of regional watershed stakeholders, taking advantage of opportunities to build coalitions.

• Establish a Technical Advisory Board that would include, but not be limited to, expertise in the following fields critical to the protection of the watershed: water & geological sciences, agriculture, government and law.

• Develop a continuing funding base and employ staff.

• Provide effective and timely education and information to the public.

• Monitor and address the changing needs of both human and natural communities in the watershed.

• Have 3000 paid members.
